We are all unique

As part of our  Keeping Ourselves Safe unit we looked at why we are all so unique and special.  We drew a self portrait and wrote about 4 things that we were good at.  We did a fabulous job at completing this task. Check them out......

We are at the beach or the lake for writing

We used a picture prompt for our writing this week. We live close to the beach and near a lake so we have all had experiences there. Read some our writing about what we have done there.

Matariki Art

We completed some art work for Matariki.  We made the stars in the sky, ripped paper to make the Southern Alps and used chalk pastels to show the Southern Lights in the night sky during winter time. We then put on our Matariki star cluster. In our class we enjoy making art work. Some parts were a little tricky and we had to show our patience - especially when we were ripping the paper in the shape of the mountains and when we were cutting out the Matariki star cluster.

We did think our art work turned out really well and we were very proud of what we had achieved. Ka pai Wēka Teina - awesome work!!

A real author came to our class

A few weeks ago we were really lucky to have a real author of a children's book come to our class and read her story.  She was Josh's Aunty and her name was Janet Pereira.  She read us the story that she wrote called Blackie the fisher-cat.

We all thought it was a great story and listened with interest as she read it to us. We did lots of predicting about what we thought was going to happen to Blackie and where he was going to end up. It was exciting that the story was set in Karamea on the West Coast of the South Island.

After Janet had read the story to us we told her how much we enjoyed it and then we were able to ask her some questions. She said we are on the right track with how we write in our class at writing time. Who knows,  maybe one day some of us will become authors when we grow up.  Thanks Janet for coming to visit, we loved it and thanks Josh for sharing your clever aunty with us.

Happy Father's Day

Weka Tēina were very excited to make this special art for their dad's on Father's Day.  They made a rock man with a super hero cape with the caption

                                                                              Dad

                                                                       My Hero........

                                                                          My rock!

I hope all our dad's had a super day today. I did remind them that all their dad would want was a super well behaved child!!!

Happy Father's Day, Love Weka Tēina

A very big thank you to Mrs Minehan and Keiryn who helped us.
